The "Why" they attack the flag

The clamor being raised against all things that were the Confederate States of America is but a glaring fulfillment of the establishment of the American MSM's version of Orwell's "1984" Ministry of Truth. Just as Orwell said, "By controlling the present, the Party is able to manipulate the past. And in controlling the past, the Party can justify all of its actions in the present."

Our language is being corrupted continuously and being morphed into "Newspeak" with the goal that no one will be capable of conceptualizing anything that might question the establishment of absolute power.

Besides, the American people have already accepted Big Brother (the NSA) watching them, they have been sold that, "War is Peace (America is and has been in perpetual war), Freedom is Slavery (The people are told to surrender their Liberties so the Government can keep them safe), and Ignorance is Strength (The fruits of our public school system).

People have been fed a diet of deception about the causes of the War of Northern Aggression. They believe the lies and half-truths they got from the public school systems. Few kids actually read source material.

C.S.A. General Patrick Cleburne in a 1864 letter to President Jefferson Davis wrote:
"Surrender means that the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy; that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers; will learn from Northern school books their version of the war; will be impressed by all the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors, and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision."

That's what has happened. The victors have always written the books about the war.

In 1860 the South was paying approx. 70% of the national taxes collected. Tariffs and excise taxes supported the government and the South depended on international trade. If they left the Union there would be a tremendous loss on income for the central government.

The world understood at that time what was going on. In Great Britain, many intellectuals and political leaders saw Lincoln's War for exactly what it was - a dispute over taxation. Charles Dickens writes, "The Northern onslaught upon slavery was no more than a piece of specious humbug designed to conceal its desire for economic control of the Southern States."

Dickens goes on to say "...Union means so many millions a year lost to the South; secession means the loss of the same millions to the North. The love of money is the root of this as of many other evils... The quarrel between the North and South is, as it stands, solely a fiscal quarrel." Let us quote a passage from the Northern British Review, Edinburgh, 1862, "...All Northern products are now protected: and the Morrill Tariff is a very masterpiece of folly and injustice.”

The London Times on November 7, 1861 wrote, "The contest is really for empire on the side of the North and for independence on that of the South."

H L Mencken made some astute observations about this war that had been thrust upon the South — "The American people, North and South, went into the Civil War as citizens of their respective states, they came out as subjects... And what they thus lost they have never gotten back.

The Gettysburg speech was at once the shortest and the most famous oration in American history...the highest emotion reduced to a few poetical phrases. Lincoln himself never even remotely approached it. It is genuinely stupendous. But let us not forget that it is poetry, not logic; beauty, not sense. Think of the argument in it. Put it into the cold words of everyday. The doctrine is simply this: that the Union soldiers who died at Gettysburg sacrificed their lives to the cause of self-determination – that government of the people, by the people, for the people, should not perish from the earth.

It is difficult to imagine anything more untrue. The Union soldiers in the battle actually fought against self-determination; it was the Confederates who fought for the right of their people to govern themselves."

Why does that battle flag mean something to Southerners? It represents the unquenchable thirst for individual Liberty unencumbered by an overbearing central government that micromanages our lives, regulates, and taxes excessively.. More and more people are tiring of this overbearing central government.

Like the poet said, ""The Gray Riders are gone, yet they remain asleep in Our Soil, and alive in Our Veins! Untouched by fire, untouched by frost, they whisper within us -- OUR CAUSE IS NOT LOST!"

This is not acceptable thinking to the controllers who run this country.
